Did you know…

The Old Wimbledonians RFC is home to over 500 players and around 70 coaches in total (and that’s without mentioning the fantastic support each of our teams receives every match day from our large pool of committed fans and non-playing members!).

A large percentage of that membership consists of the parents and players within our minis and juniors sections, otherwise known as the Old Wimbledonian Warriors.

Always looking to welcome new players, the Warriors is an ideal environment for children of all abilities to learn how to play rugby, and have fun while doing it, open to both boys and girls ranging from ages 4 to 18. The Warriors section is run by experienced, dedicated volunteers, all of whom have been DBS checked and approved, and most are RFU-qualified coaches and referees.

The Warriors Way

The Warriors’ philosophy is that children will only learn if they’re enjoying themselves, and so success is judged by whether the kids want to come back each week. Although it’s always great to win, the most important thing about rugby (and sport in general) is to enjoy it.

The Warriors set-up aims to teach the basic skills of the game while also instilling a love of rugby which will last a lifetime. All our Warriors coaches and volunteers work hard to create a positive, enjoyable atmosphere to help all players grow personally and become the best team players they can be.

This, in turn, enables Warriors players to be competitive, but with a smile on their faces and the ability to lose gracefully when necessary (but hopefully not too often!)

Where and When to Find Them

Warriors training takes place on Sundays, as follows:

  • Minis (under-5 to under-8) – 9:30am - 10:45am
  • Minis (under-9 to under-12) – 9:30am - 10:45am
